Prof Mohammed Rafiqul Islam

Professor, Department of Pathology, Faculty of Veterinary Science, Bangladesh Agricultural University, Mymensingh

Mohammed Rafiqul Islam obtained his DVM and MSc (Vet Sc) degrees from Bangladesh Agricultural University in 1981 and 1982, respectively, and PhD from the University of Liverpool, UK in 1988. He conducted postdoctoral research as a Humboldt Research Fellow at the University of Leipzig, Germany from 1999 to 2000. .

He joined as a Lecturer in Veterinary Pathology at Bangladesh Agricultural University in 1982 and currently he is a Professor of Veterinary Pathology in the same university. Professor Islam also worked for FAO as a laboratory expert at its Asia Pacific Regional Office from 2008 to 2009. He started his research career as an avian pathologist with his PhD dissertation work on avian reovirus.

Subsequently he worked on duck virus enteritis. His current research interest is in infectious bursal disease virus, avian influenza viruses and Newcastle disease virus of poultry and foot and mouth disease virus of cattle and PPR of sheep and goats. He has published around 70 research articles.

He received Bangladesh Academy of Science Gold Medal in 2004 and Avian Pathology Asian Lecture Award in 2014
