Prior to this he was a senior post-doctoral fellow at the Institute for Animal Health Compton Laboratory (now the Pirbright Institute) His research interests focus primarily on the infection biology and immunology of enteric bacterial pathogens in the chicken. He has published around 70 peer-reviewed papers and several book chapters on the biology of Salmonella,Campylobacter and E. coli in the chicken.
He is a member of the editorial board of several journals including Avian Pathology and Avian Diseases. Paul has a BSc (Hons) in Immunology from King’s College London and a PhD in Molecular Microbiology from the Open University.
Outside of work he has a keen interest in wine, rugby, cricket and football and has been a supporter of Swansea City for over 35 years.
